PRODUCT OVERVIEW
We picked up our Ambiano Robot Vacuum Cleaner from our local Aldi as part of the Specialbuys range.
Priced at £99.99 when we bought ours, it sits at a much lower price point than many well-known robot vacuum cleaners.
In our video we concentrate on the things that matter in everyday use: how it navigates a room, how well it picks up debris, how it deals with obstacles and what happens when it needs to return to its charging dock.
WHAT WE TESTED
We watch how the robot moves around the room and changes direction as it encounters its surroundings.
Cleaning performance is tested with everyday debris rather than simply allowing the robot to run on an already clean floor.
We look at how it reacts to furniture, edges and other objects it encounters while cleaning.
We also look at the robot's ability to return to its charging dock after cleaning.
REAL-WORLD CLEANING
The attraction of the Ambiano is obvious: it brings automatic floor cleaning into a much lower price range than many premium robot vacuum cleaners.
Our test looks at whether the basic cleaning performance and navigation are useful enough to make that low price worthwhile in everyday use.
Aldi quotes a runtime of up to 90 minutes, giving the robot time to cover a useful floor area before recharging.
AROUND THE HOME
Hard flooring is a natural environment for a compact robot vacuum and forms an important part of our testing.
The vacuum is also intended for lower-pile carpet rather than only smooth hard flooring.
Robot vacuums are particularly useful for frequent light cleaning between more thorough manual cleans.
The main attraction is being able to let the robot work around the floor while you get on with something else.
